Awards Banquet was one HECK OF A GOOD TIME!!!

Well, we’ve already started the 2010 CMSA events year with our November shoot, but hadn’t completely wrapped up 2009. Now we can officially say 2009 is history! Our 2010 Officers are now on board: President: Paul Cain, Vice President Wendy Rowden, Secretary Kim Amsden, Treasurer Gary Miller, and the Board of Directors: Kenny Rasnic, Laura Parmentier, and Tony Lewis. The Annual Awards Banquet this year was held at Benham Street Grill in Bonne Terre, MO. The food was excellent the company was even better. Benham Street Grill is a small place that my family loves; I couldn’t wait to share it with my fellow shooters. The atmosphere was full of fellowship and fun. The music provided by David Miller and Kayce Amsden was wonderful and provided a foot stomping good time. There were hilarious pool games, hot shuffle board games, and the ever popular pin ball wars. The silent auction was full of amazing donations, thank you to everyone who provided items. The silent auction is always entertaining as everyone huddles over their treasurers. Visit our website photo gallery and links tabs for pictures and videos from the banquet. One member was so happy with the party she booked us at Benham Street for the rest of our years; thanks Doris!!!! It was a wonderful sight to see everyone having such a good time. The awards this year were outstanding: Each class winner was presented a pair of spurs displaying their name and 2 pistols on each and the Overall and Reserve Overall Cowboys and Cowgirls received wooden stirrup with their award, the year, and MO Big Irons on them. To say the least the awards are useful and very eye catching. The Class Winners are as follows: Men’s 1 Ryan Mackley, Men’s 2 Glenn Shelton, Men’s 3 Kenny Rasnic, Men’s 4Paul Cain, Men’s 6 Richi Mills, Senior Men’s 1 Terry Effan, Senior Men’s 3 Rich Hanne, Senior Men’s 4 Danny Dees, Junior Men’s Kolby Cain, Ladies 1Nicole Dowell, Ladies 2 Julie Martin, Ladies 3 Wendy Rowden, Ladies 4 Laura Parmentier, Ladies 5 Karah Cain, Senior Ladies 3 Doris Seabaugh, Junior Ladies Klaire Lewis, Wrangler Open Kaleb Irwin, and Wrangler Limited Taylor Fischbeck. The Reserve Overall Cowgirl went to Kayce Amsden and the Overall Cowgirl went to Karah Cain. The Reserve Overall Cowboy went to Kenny Rasnic and the Overall Cowboy went to Paul Cain.  The highly sought awards of Most Improved Cowgirl and Cowboy were captured this year by Julie Martin and Glenn Shelton and they earned them with hard work and wet saddle blankets. The Top Hand Award went to the member who is always ready to go above and beyond for the success of the club and was won hands down by Mark Rowden. Then we have that award shooters try very hard to avoid: The Dirt Dobber Award. Now to win this award you only have to fall off at some point during a competition where witnesses then rate the fall and the best, funniest yard dart wins the title. Debbie Dees entered for this competition more than she probably desired, but with determination to keep on riding and shooting. I would like to thank everyone up front and behind the scenes for all your hard work and participation; without you there would be no Missouri Big Irons. If you are considering becoming a cowboy mounted shooter I highly recommend emailing that you plan to attend a practice. Many shooters will hand over their holsters, guns, and even horses for those interested to give this exciting sport a try. Ride Hard, Shoot Straight, and right now try to stay warm until we meet again!! Paul Cain, President of Missouri Big Irons

.What is Cowboy Mounted Shooting? Cowboy Mounted Shooting is one of the nation's fastest growing equestrian sports. Mounted contestants compete in this fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared black powder ammunition. Courses of fire are set in a variety of patterns. The first half (5 targets) of a course of fire will vary with each go and requires the horse and rider to stop, turn, change leads and accelerate rapidly. The second half (5 targets), called the "run down", is a straight course with targets set at 36 foot intervals. Find out more at www.CowboyMountedShooting.com.
